I Wake Up Sweaty Every Night!

Ahhh the wonder of peri and menopause! All of a sudden you are hot, red and sweaty and peeling off your clothes. Then at night you wake up soaked with sweat or spend the night hot, cold, hot, cold arghhh!

Hormones are Fluctuating

Those pesky hormones are at it again. From the time you hit puberty until well after menopause it seems as if we are at the mercy of our hormones. Once you are in perimenopause and menopause your hormones are fluctuating wildly causing side effects like, hot flashes. What is a girl to do?

Dress for Hot Flashes

I rarely if ever wear a long sleeve sweatshirt or sweater anymore. I tend to wear short sleeve shirts with a sweater or light jacket on top so I can quickly take it off and cool off. Dressing in layers is a great strategy.

Food to Eat to balance Hormones

There are foods you can eat and avoid to help manage your hot flashes. Here is a website that gives you some ideas of foods you can eat to help tame those hot flashes. https://www.womentowomen.com/menopause-perimenopause/nutritional-relief-for-hot-flashes/  Here are some ideas for the website:

  • Roasted soy nuts — look for non-GMO, with sea salt or other natural seasonings
  • Raw broccoli, cauliflower, and celery sticks dipped in Creamy Tofu-Garlic Dip (see recipe below)
  • A bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal, topped with 3 tablespoons freshly ground flax seeds and soy milk
  • Broccoli sprouts, generously sprinkled atop a salad or tucked inside a whole grain wrap or omelet
  • Icy soy smoothie, blended with your choice of deeply-pigmented berries
  • Soothing chamomile tea, iced or freshly steeped

Essential Oils to Control Hot Flashes

There are many essential oils that you can use to help manage your hot flashes. They are natural hormone balancers so they can be used for anyone struggling with hormones from puberty through menopause. Here is a list:

Bergamot, Blue Spruce, Cardamom, Clary Sage, Geranium, Melaleuca, Melissa, Rose, Sage, Spikenard, Basil, Lavender, Anise, Lemon, Myrtle, Thyme, Sandalwood, AND I could go on!!

Many essential oils can help with balancing hormones. They key is finding the right one/combination for you that works.

Hot Mama Essential Oil Blend

I created an essential oil blend for those pesky hot flashes that works like a charm called, Hot Mama. It has Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamot, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Ginger, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa, and Vitex essential oils.

I use it every night before I go to bed each night. It helps with the night sweats. During the day if I get too hot I roll it on and it stops the flash.

Lifestyle Changes

It is important to realize that this is only for a time and it may be necessary to implement some lifestyle changes. Exercise, plant based supplements, (No synthetics!) healthy diet and take time for YOU!

Menopause can be a wonderful time in your life. It is a time of renewal. I guarantee you will not be the same person when you are through it. Embrace the change, take time to discover the new you and enjoy who you are becoming!
